Women's track team wins Big Sky

For the ninth time in 25 years, the Weber State University’s women’s indoor track and field team won the Big Sky Conference Championship in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Saturday.

Sarah Callister and Amber Henry led the team to a one-point victory over two-time defending champion Sacramento State University.

Callister captured the long distance double in the 5,000 and 3,000 meter runs and added a second place finish in the mile run to finish with 28 points.

For her strong performance at the meet, Callister was named Female Track Athlete of the Meet.

Henry won the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 11.26 seconds. She then won the mile in 4:52.66.

In the mile, runners from WSU claimed the top three spots.

“Those were two gritty performances by Sarah and Amber, especially at high altitude,” said WSU Head Coach Jim Blaisdell. “We needed every point today, and we came through. I am really thrilled with our performance today.”

On Friday night, they captured the distance medley relay with a time of 12:20.45. The 4×400 relay team of Amanda Alston, Kristin Billings, Elisa Isakson and Audrey Smith turned in solid time of 3:45.98 to win their race.

The men’s team finished in fifth place, with Northern Arizona University winning the men’s meet.
