Playin' On Purple: Join the WSU bandwagon

Weber State University Athletics is beginning to make a name for itself. Football, basketball, volleyball, softball, cross-country, and track and field are beginning to shine in our conference and in our state.

WSU has never been a big-time, household name in Utah, or even Ogden for that matter, but it is beginning to be. WSU has partnered with the Ogden community recently for several things to help get people on the WSU bandwagon. Theses collaborations are, at the very least, planting the purple-and-white seed.

If you are not already on the WSU bandwagon, you need to be.

WSU has always had old-timers who come to every game and refuse to miss. This year, I expect more young families to be that way and, of course, the WSU students. The community can’t be a WSU college town if WSU’s own students don’t even believe in their athletics program. It has to start here, with us.

Hey, I understand the love of BYU and U of U in our state. I get it, but if you go to WSU, you should be proud of your time here. Wear Weber wear on Fridays and to the games. WSU is going to be a big deal. Isn’t it better to be on board sooner rather than later?

Recently, WSU football has had some drama with the head coaching position but, thankfully, that has been resolved. I honestly believe that Coach Jody Sears will take this team and make them winners. Sears has a great staff and great talent to back him up. After watching Sears in action at practice and watching the players do their thing, I am expecting a good year out of our footballers.

WSU men’s basketball got a lot of attention last year with Damian Lillard. Although Lillard is gone now, I don’t expect WSU to miss a beat. They will continue to thrive and grow and win.

WSU women’s basketball underwent some coaching staff changes recently as well. They struggled last year, but I expect some major improvements from them this year.

Volleyball also had some coaching changes and a tough season last year. After finding some awesome new recruits packed with talent, Coach Tom Peterson has compiled a team that is going to work for him. Volleyball has already started its season off with a win and two losses, but that’s already better than the previous season.

Ever since I was a young teenager, I have been a WSU fan. I never had to decide on which college to go to, because it was always WSU. I know that when I have a family of my own, we will go to every game. If you are on the WSU bandwagon, spread the word, and if you aren’t on the bandwagon yet, feel free to join us and then spread the word, because the Wildcats are going to be the teams to follow this year. We are Weber. GO, WILDCATS!
