The Weber State University Student Association has announced its student senate election results and the names of the new WSUSA student senators for the 2013-14 school year. The results were announced Friday at noon in the Shepherd Union Atrium.
Andrew Gardiner, this year’s WSUSA student body president, said the student senate election was a success, and that he’s excited for the positive impact he thinks the senators will have.
“Every year, I think the senate gets more and more awareness and credibility and more people are running,” Gardiner said. “We have pretty much a full senate, I think, minus a few positions, which will fill very soon. I think we have great students.”
Gardiner said he also wanted to encourage students to keep up the level of involvement.
“To those who didn’t get elected, don’t let this discourage you, but encourage you to do another position on campus, because the students want you and we need you. I hope no one leaves today saying, ‘Oh, dang it, I didn’t get the senate position I wanted, I’m not going to get involved.’ There are plenty of positions that they can make an impact on.”
India Nielsen, the newly elected senator for the College of Arts and Humanities, said she’s very excited for next year.
“I’m super-happy that people want me to represent them in the senate,” Nielsen said. “The senate’s obviously really important because it is the voice of students on campus, so I’m just happy that I was elected.”
Nielsen added that she loves having the chance to serve students.
“Student government and WSUSA is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she said.
Joshua Hunt, the newly elected senator for veteran students, has previous experience with WSUSA as assistant director and vice president of diversity. He said he plans to use his experience to help further serve campus.
“For me personally, (being elected) means a chance to continue serving, a chance which I’m very honored to get, especially to continue in WSUSA as long as I have.”
Hunt said he plans to continue stepping up his efforts and make a genuine impact and change on campus.

Three student senate positions are still open: the senators for American Indian, Pacific Islander and graduate students. Brady Harris, current and re-elected senate president, said students interested in any of these positions can apply for them.
