If I can manage to round up a groundhog, is it too much to ask to give us a few more weeks of autumn?

It’s been such a beautiful autumn season this year that I don’t want it to end. Whether it’s the colorful hikes, a couple extra outdoor BBQs, an extra golf round or two, or even enough time to squeeze in some extra yardwork, this season has been a very enjoyable one for me.

Some years, we’re robbed of this beautiful season. Like in 2007, Ogden saw a heavy snow season that started in September and went through March. That is six full months of snow on the ground in the valley. That year, I felt robbed. I couldn’t even enjoy the beautiful colors or the fun things that autumn offers. Instead, since I’m no snowboarder or skier, I had to hibernate. That was not a fun year.

Maybe we can make up for that missed season this year.

I’m not asking that we don’t have an overproductive snow season, because we really do need it. I’m just asking that we hold off a few weeks so we can all extend our outdoor hiking, biking and golfing season before we fill up the mountains with snow for you winter sports folks to enjoy.

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to rely on snow to survive. But, since that isn’t the case, I guess we’ll put up with it for a while. The best situation would be that enough snow falls during the four weeks of Christmas break to fill up our lakes and reservoirs so that I don’t have to worry about the commute to and from campus. That way, we know that we aren’t in a drought and the resorts are all open in the mountains, keeping the economy up and going as it should be. Then those of us who live and work in the valleys can still enjoy the beauty of winter without having to deal with it every time we walk out the door and try to get to school or elsewhere.

Snow makes just getting to school a huge chore, not to mention all the schoolwork we have to do for our classes. I just really hate trampling through snow just to get to class. Showing up to class dripping water isn’t the best part of going to WSU for me. I know some of you came to Weber for this very reason, but some of us need to stay here at least for a while to graduate, so please bear with me as I try to create my perfect fantasy land.

Since beggars can’t be choosers all the time, I guess I’d take a very moist summer over a dry one. No matter what, we Wildcats sure do know how to have a good time, so I guess it doesn’t even matter.
