Senate Bill 54, which made the compromise between Count my Vote representatives and the Utah Legislature, took its first step toward becoming law by passing both houses of the Utah Legislature. Now it awaits Gov. Gary Herbert’s signature.
The Utah Senate voted down a bill that proposed raising Utah’s smoking age from 19 to 21. The Senate defeated the bill by a vote of 12 for and 16 against. One member did not vote.
The Utah House passed a bill that proposes to legalize cannabis for epileptic children in Utah. Huntsville Republican Gage Froerer sponsored the bill. The bill moved to the Senate and has been approved in committee. It awaits a full Senate vote.
The Utah House passed a resolution proposing to move the state prison in Draper. A new location has not been decided at this time. The bill moved to the Senate and has been assigned to the Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee.
