Weber State volleyball outside hitter Audrey Biggs is this week’s Signpost Athlete of the Week after recording 61 kills, including a career-high 21 kills in one match, during the Wildcats’ first four matches of the season.

“I think overall we did pretty good. It’s great to hear that I broke my own record,” Biggs said. “I attribute it a lot to my team. We had a really good match. I’m pretty sure we were passing it really well. I don’t really remember it sticking out as one of my greatest moments or anything like that, but I think that it was a nice match, and I am happy that I broke the record.”

Biggs led the Wildcats in kills in three of their four matches at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk’s Holiday Hullabaloo tournament, including a 21-kill performance against the Farleigh Dickinson Knights. Her 21 kills nearly matched the total number of kills put up by the Knights as a team (31) in the match.

“How she goes is how we go a little bit, because she’s our senior. The one that gets more sets than anybody else, and scores more points than anyone else,” said volleyball head coach Tom Peterson. “So when she’s really good, it sure takes the pressure off of all of us, and we all play better.”

Along with her 61 kills, Biggs also recorded 15 digs and 12 blocks over the two-day long tournament. Her performance got her selected to the All-Tournament team.

“She has such a strong arm, that she’s able to just score by her power. So when she’s on, she’s great,” Peterson said. “She is the ‘ooh and ahh’ player the crowd likes to watch. She’s going to get some kills that will be impressive.”

Biggs and the Wildcats will be on the road again this weekend as they compete in the Air Force Invitational tournament. They will face off against Houston Baptist at 5 p.m. Friday to begin the tournament, before playing Marist at 10 a.m. and Air Force at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

“I think we are going to make a lot of improvements,” Biggs said. “I think just based on the experience from this last week we are going to do a lot better. Clean up a lot of those little errors that kept us from winning.”

Weber State will begin its conference schedule on Sept. 25, when they host Montana. Biggs said that she feels a lot of people are underestimating the Wildcats this season.

“Honestly, I think people are going to be in for a shock. Weber State has been at the bottom of the Big Sky (Conference) for way too long, and I think it’s about time that we change that,” she said. “I think that a lot of teams are going to be shocked at how good we are getting to be this year.”
