Five Crazy HeadlinesFrom men-only gender equality conferences, to Darth Vader’s campaign for Ukraine Parliament, here are this week’s five crazy headlines.

  1. Ayperi Alekseeva gets 9-pound hairball removed from her stomach

An 18-year-old Kyrgyzstan girl recently had a massive hairball surgically removed from her stomach.

She was admitted to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. Apparently she had been in the habit of eating hair from her carpet and chewing on her own hair.

X-rays revealed the hairball, and doctors immediately began surgery. Afterwards, they told her she needed to kick the hair-eating habit.

  1. Kim Jong-un ‘Had surgery on fractured ankles’

After wearing Cuban heels to public events allegedly caused fracture injuries, the North Korean ruler is undergoing treatment and has disappeared from public life.

He is, of course, still surrounded by maximum-security forces during his treatment.

  1. ‘Men-only’ conference on gender equality to invite women after all

Feminists everywhere must have face-palmed.

After plans for a January United Nations conference on gender-roles originally invited men only, organizing countries including Iceland and Suriname decided women should be invited, too.

The focus of the conference is male violence against women. After thinking about it, inviting women to speak for themselves seemed like the right thing to do.

  1. Target of FBI bribery probe successfully bribes FBI agent

It was precisely what they didn’t want to happen.

After Boston businessman Michael Taylor came under investigation for bribing contractors he responded in the only way he knew how. He bribed the FBI agent to steer clear of him.

It worked, until former agent Robert Lustyik Jr. was caught. Lustyik pleaded guilty of 11 counts of fraud, obstruction and conspiracy.

  1. Ukraine: Darth Vaders run for parliament

Sixteen men registered as “Darth Vader” are running for election in the Ukraine Parliament.

Other candidates are running under similar aliases, including other “Star Wars” characters Chewbacca and Yoda.

Candidates fully embrace their personas on billboards and ads, and even dress in full costume when campaigning.

Apparently the move comes in light of a fight against government corruption, showcasing how easy it is to change someone’s name under the current system.

Ukraine’s petitions to join the Galactic Empire, however, have still been denied.
