Top 5 inexpensive Halloween costumes

I don’t remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween. As a college student, I thought I had grown out of the costume phase, until this year.

Walking through a costume shop with friends brought back memories of playing dress-up as a child, but the difference now is I can’t continue to be a princess for yet another year.

So the question is, what pseudo-identity do I want to play for an evening? It seems that adult female costumes have become more and more risqué, and I don’t want to be giving away all my secrets, but I also want to shy away from anything too scary.

Here are the top five fun costume ideas I came up with for college students. See if they spark any ideas for you.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

On Pinterest, I found this group costume idea. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles can be a group costume for either guys or girls, and with the TMNT movie just hitting the screens, you will be the hippest group at any party you go to.

Twister!

As poor college students we often wonder if we can even afford a Halloween costume. Being a twister board requires only white clothing and colored construction paper. Cut circles out of the construction paper and tape them to yourself and there you have it, a human twister board!

A Rubik’s Cube!

Do you want to stand out at that Halloween party? This costume is also inexpensive to make and will guarantee some attention. All you need is a cardboard box and either some paint or markers to color in the squares then cut out holes for your legs, arms and head.

Nerd!

This is one of my favorite costume ideas, only because it is classic and never seems to go out of style. Get a fake pair of glasses, adding on that piece of Scotch tape to finish the look. Another key item to the nerd costume is suspenders, which can add some fun nerd style.

Hershey Kiss!

Wrap yourself in aluminum foil, adding more around your hips in order to achieve the correct shape. You can add a strip of paper with the Hershey label poking out of the top of the foil so that you really look like a chocolate kiss.

Remember, you can have some fun with your costume, keep it inexpensive and still look great.
