Women’s soccer match ends in first tie of the season for Wildcats

A last-second goal in regulation caused the Wildcats to pick up their first tie of the season against Northern Arizona 1-1.

Junior defender Marissa Cook scored the lone goal for Weber State almost nine minutes into the game off an assist from senior midfielder Mackenzie Peck. The scored remained 1-0 until the final few seconds of the second half, when Haley Wingender scored for NAU off a header shot to make it 1-1.

Despite several shots from the Wildcats during the first and second overtime periods, they were unable to score as the game ended in a tie. It was the first tie for the Wildcats against a conference opponent since October 25, 2013 when they tied with Northern Colorado 1-1 at Greeley, Colorado.

The Wildcats (5-11-1, 2-5-1 conference) will end the regular season on Friday when they host Idaho State (7-7-1, 4-3-1 conference) at 3 p.m.

Wildcats hockey drops close match to Utah

The Weber State hockey team suffered a heartbreaking loss Saturday night to Utah, as the Utes scored two late empty net goals to come away with a 4-2 win.

The Utes took an early 1-0 lead in the first period, before Jonathan Cosman tied the game on a power play goal in the second period. The Utes regained the lead early in the third period, and then scored an empty net goal to go up 3-1 with 1:28 remaining in the game. Koda Coleman managed to find the back of the Utah net with less than a minute remaining to make the score 3-2, but the Utes managed to break away with only a few seconds remaining and scored another empty net goal to give them the eventual 4-2 victory.

The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend as they play at Florida Gulf Coast Friday and Saturday. They will return home to Ogden on Nov. 7 when they host Utah at 7:30 p.m.
