WSU soccer forward Stacy Bair is this week’s Signpost Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring her fifth goal of the season against Southern Utah, matching her career high for goals in a season.
Bair’s goal on Sunday was the only time the Wildcats scored off the Thunderbirds in the 2-1 overtime loss. It was the first time Bair scored since the Wildcats’ 3-0 win over North Dakota on Oct. 5.
“It was do or die for us,” Bair said. “I was out to get some goals, and the first couple chances that I had I didn’t put them away, and so I knew I had to make up for it in the second half, and I was lucky to do so.”
With five goals on the season, Bair matched her career-high from last season as a sophomore. Even though she’s had a good season, Bair isn’t ready to stop trying to score.
“(Matching last season’s goals) feels good,” Bair said. “Hopefully I can add to those numbers in our last game.”
Along with matching her career high, she also hit a team milestone earlier this year. Her second goal of the season-coming in the Wildcats’ 3-4 loss to Hawaii-was the 475th goal in team history.
Bair and the Wildcats will conclude their season on Friday afternoon when they host Idaho State at 3 p.m. Looking forward to their season finale, Bair felt positive about the team’s chances against their conference rival.
“I think we just need to keep doing what we’re doing, because I think we’re doing everything right,” Bair said. “We just need to put away our chances, and hopefully we can knock out Idaho State and end their chances to go to the Big Sky Tournament, because we don’t want them to go because we didn’t get to go. Kind of a rivalry team right there.”
