Eight hockey teams around the west competed in the Beehive Showcase over the weekend. The tournament ran from Thursday to Sunday with Arizona State Elite, Northern Arizona, University of Utah, Texas A&M, Montana Tech, Utah State University, Weber State University and San Jose State in the competition.
The Wildcats played San Jose State on Thursday, falling 2-4 to the eighth-ranked team. Weber had better luck Friday night, coming back from their loss on Thursday evening. Playing against Texas A&M, Weber won 7-6 in overtime. The Wildcats played a heated game, with multiple players ending up in the penalty box from both teams. Senior Jesse Love took a hard hit to the head while being knock down by a Texas A&M player in the third period. Sophomore Jake Webber suffered a sprained right ankle during the third period. Freshman Cody Bohin scored the winning goal to take away the win against the third-ranked team.
The Wildcats played Northern Arizona University on Saturday evening, falling 1-6 to the second-ranked team. Weber took another hard hit, losing against Montana Tech in overtime on Sunday afternoon 2-3.
Weber’s next home game is Friday Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weber County Sports Complex. Make sure to come out and support the Wildcats as they take on the sixth-ranked team, Utah State.
