Men’s tennis falls short against Air force

The Wildcats came up short in a close match against Air Force on Sunday. They lost 4-3 for their third loss of the season.

Hou-En Chen won the No. 5 singles match for the Wildcats, while Dylan Hansel picked up a three-set win in the No. 6 singles match. Todd Fought was the only other Wildcat to pick up a win Sunday as he defeated Andrew Parks (6-1, 6-2) in the No. 3 singles match. Sanjay Goswami and Stefan Cooper defeated Jack McCullers and Grant Taylor 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, but the Wildcats dropped the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles match to lose the doubles point.

The Wildcats play again on Saturday when they host University of Missouri-Kansas City and University of Nebraska-Omaha in a doubleheader matchup.

Women’s tennis captures first victory of the season

After a loss at Utah State to open up their season, the women’s tennis team was able to trump Colorado Mesa University 6-1 on Sunday.

The Wildcats won the No. 1 doubles match as the duo of Agata Bachanek and Kristi Elmer took down Kristyn Wykar and Rachel McLaughlin 6-2. Dominique Beauvais and Romey Dodd-Stephens ran away with the 6-0 win in the No. 2 doubles match to give the Wildcats the win in doubles play.

Bachanek was also able to pull ahead against Martin in the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1. The Wildcats won the No. 1 through No. 5 singles matches against Colorado Mesa. Their lone loss came in the No. 6 match when Michelle Phillips topped Megan Rindlisbacher 6-4, 6-0.

The Wildcats (1-1) will go on the road for their next two games before returning home Feb. 11 to host Idaho State.

Former Wildcat qualifies for Olympic Trials

Former Weber State track runner Taylor Ward qualified  for the Olympic Trials last Sunday after finishing with a time of 2:38:30 at the Chevron Houston Marathon.

Ward’s final time was almost five minutes faster than the ‘B’ standard required to qualify for the trials. Taylor will compete in the trials in Los Angeles on February 13, 2016, where the top three runners will earn a chance to represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Signpost Game of the Week: Hockey to play in Wasatch Cup

This week’s Signpost game of the week will be this Friday and Saturday when the men’s hockey team will participate in the inaugural Wasatch Cup hosted by the University of Utah. The tournament will feature the four major schools (Weber State, Utah, Brigham Young and Utah State) in Utah as they duel to see which team is the best of state.

On Friday the tournament will open with Utah facing BYU, followed by Weber State facing Utah State University. The winners of those matches will play Saturday night at 8 p.m. for the Cup, while the losers will play a consolation game at 6 p.m.
