When it comes to singles play, it’s almost a guarantee that the Weber State University men’s tennis team can pencil in a win in the No. 4 singles match thanks to junior Landon Barlow.

Last weekend against the University of Idaho, Barlow continued his season-long dominance as he defeated Vandals’ junior Jackson Varney in two sets (6-2, 6-1) to improve to 7-0 in singles play during Big Sky Conference play.

Barlow’s win against Varney was his 13th in a row during singles play this year. He has only one loss on the year in singles play, losing to Air Force freshman Max Olson 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 in January.

Along with having the best record in singles play for the Wildcats, Barlow has also been seeing success in doubles play. Teaming up with freshman Hou-En Chen in the No. 3 doubles match, Barlow and Chen were a perfect 6-0 in doubles play in March. Barlow and Chen’s perfect record in doubles play helped the Wildcats finish March 6-1 in doubles play.

Barlow’s success with the Wildcats has ranked him as one of the top players in the Big Sky Conference. Barlow is first in the conference in singles wins among players with at least five decisions, and Barlow and Chen are first in the conference in doubles wins with a perfect 7-0 overall record.

Barlow and the Wildcats (11-9, 6-1 conference) return to action next week when they travel to Cedar City, Utah to take on Southern Utah University (0-11, 0-7 conference) on April 10. The Wildcats will play two more road games after Southern Utah before returning home to host University of Northern Colorado in their final game of the season on April 19.
