As the Weber State University softball team battled to remain on top of the Big Sky Conference standings over the weekend, the Wildcats won two of their three games against Southern Utah University thanks in part to junior Krystin Kubo.

Against the Thunderbirds, Kubo batted .429 (3-7) and drove in six of the Wildcats’ 20 runs against SUU. Two of her three hits went for extra bases, as Kubo hit her third home run of the season in the Wildcats’ loss on Saturday and hit her first career triple in the second game of the three game series.

After driving in the final run in the Wildcats’ Game 1 win, Kubo started the scoring for WSU in Game 2 with a triple to right field that scored sophomore Mackenzi Corta to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Kubo increased that lead to 2-0 when she hit a sacrifice fly two innings later to score sophomore Sara Hingsberger.

Kubo finished off her successful weekend with a game-tying two-run home run to left field in the second inning of Saturday’s loss to the Thunderbirds.

After her performance against SUU, Kubo sits in third place on the team in home runs (3), and is second on the team in sacrifice flies (4) and is tied for second in runs batted in (31).

Kubo and the Wildcats (28-14, 9-3 conference) will be on the road for their next two conference series beginning with a trip to University of Northern Colorado this weekend. After returning home for a non-conference doubleheader against Utah State University on Tuesday, the Wildcats will go on the road one last time to face Sacramento State before closing out their season at home against University of Montana.
