Cheap Weekly: Fall Date Ideas

‘Tis the season for saving pennies. With holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, affordable dates become more important as you save your pennies for that extra special Christmas gift you are planning for your sweetie. But don’t let the romance go out the window just to save a couple bucks. Here are some affordable and even free fall date ideas.

Take a drive up Ogden canyon to see the changing colors of the fall foliage. Put on some romantic coffee table jazz as you look at the beautiful scenery. Find a spot to pull off and take pictures of the trees or your significant other. Who knows, it may be your next Facebook profile picture.

To top it all off, stop at The Oaks in the canyon and buy some delicious Farr’s ice cream. The Oaks is located at 750 Ogden Canyon. Hours are Sunday thru Thursday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (closed Tuesdays) and Friday thru Saturday 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Another option is to visit the Ogden Botanical Gardens. The park is well kept and there are plenty of shady spots and benches where you can sit and relax. You could even bring a blanket and a picnic basket full of cheese and fruit that the two of you can enjoy.

The last time I went there, I found a perfect rock to sit on right next to the stream. The Ogden Botanical Center holds various events for the public as well. Check out their calendar of events on their website.  Located at 1750 Monroe Boulevard, the Ogden Botanical Center is open Monday thru Thursday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m – 3:30 p.m. You can walk through the park in the evenings as well.

You can also go antique and thrift store shopping. This is one of my favorite activities to do around Ogden. There are a few thrift stores that I frequent to check out their record collection. I can easily spend hours looking around at all the cool stuff. One thrift store that I always find entertaining is Savers.

I usually go there to play with the odd or broken toys, which has been a hilarious experience in the past. Savers is located on 3833 Washington Blvd. They’re open Monday thru Saturday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m and Sunday 10 a.m – 7 p.m. I also enjoy going to Estate Sale Antiques.

This store has two floors jam packed with great quirky items. Of course, this can get expensive if you plan on buying any of the antique furniture, but I find just as much entertainment out of window shopping. Estate Sale Antiques is located at 4590 Harrison Blvd, with hours Monday thru Saturday 11 a.m – 5 p.m.
