Weber State University Campus Recreation will be holding their 12th Annual Outdoor Gear Sale and Swap on Oct. 9. It is open to the students and the community to purchase outdoor gear for any season.

One of the main features of the event comes from WSUs own Outdoor Recreation department. Annually, they go through their inventory and look for gear that is in need of repair or replacement.  Depending on what they buy or replace, there are different things on sale during the Gear Swaps.

“It gives us an opportunity to sell the good equipment back to our users and participants,” said Michael Henderson, assistant coordinator of outdoor programs, “and they get it at a great deal.”

This year’s gear swap offers equipment from Campus Recreation and local vendors such as the WSU Snowboarding Club, 2nd Track Sports, Alpine Sports, Black Diamond, Amer Sports Outlet Store and more. Anything from canoes, paddle boards and wetsuits to goggles, skis and snowboards can be found at the swap.

Both consumers and the vendors are benefiting from this annual event, which has grown since it began and now offers the different vendors the opportunity to reach out to the community and make their services known. For those in the community, it is a time to bargain shop as many products will be anywhere from 50 to 70 percent off the normal prices.

This year, the Outdoor Program is planning on selling more of their summer rental inventory, which includes their paddle boards, inflatable boards, kayaks and canoes. There will be a few cross country skis, downhill skis and snowboards on sale as well. All of these products are gently used and in good condition.

“Our customers get a great price, and we go out and buy brand new equipment, so they can use brand new equipment next year,” said Henderson.

There will also be tables there for anyone who wants to bring their gear and sell or swap at their own discretion. All private sellers will be responsible for their own equipment and sales.

“We basically are able to provide them with the venue that let’s anywhere from 10 to 15 thousand people see that product in a day,” said Henderson.

This year’s Gear Swap will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m at the Lower Bell Tower Plaza.

“There’s just great deals on absolutely everything for all four seasons,” said Henderson. “Now’s the time to buy.”
