It was a double win weekend for the WIldcats this Friday and Sunday as the women’s soccer team beat big sky rivals Sacramento State 4-2 and Portland State 4-1.

Weber started strong against Sacramento State by making their first goal in the third minute of play. Freshman midfielder Madison Garlock set up the shot from the right corner as she sent a pass across the goalmouth to fellow freshmen Morgan Quarnberg, who then drove it in for her fourth goal of the season.

This was followed by senior Stacy Blair, who made her first goal of the season at 33 min. This gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead going into the half.

The second half followed the momentum of the first when a combined effort from redshirt freshman midfielder Celeste Wheelwright and senior forward Mackenzie Harrison gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead in the 51st min.

Sacramento State Reminded Weber that they came to win by driving home one goal two minutes later to make it 3-1. This was met with resistance, as Chansi Crompton cleared a 20 yard shot to help seal the victory and bring the score to 4-1. The Hornets managed one last goal with a penalty kick ending the game 4-2.

This marked the first time that Weber scored four points in a single match since 2012.

“The girls took the lid off the goal a little today, and it was good to see,” said Weber State coach Tim Crompton, “The girls were focused today on both sides of the ball. Credit goes to the player, all the players. They brought the best out of each other today.”

This was emphasized by midfielder Chansi Crompton who was at her best on Sunday afternoon, assisting in all four Wildcat goals against Portland State. Her efforts helped her career as she tied the Big Sky Conference single-match assist record and demolished Weber State’s career assist record with a now total of 23 career assists.

This aided in Weber defeating the Vikings 4-1, who were leading 3-0 at the half.

Crompton is currently tied for the second-most assists in Big Sky Conference history, following close behind former Idaho State star Annamarie Hofstetter for the league’s all-time mark. The four assists, all of which were primary helpers, tied the single-match Big Sky record and she became the third player in the 19-year history of the league to accomplish the feat. She is the first to do it in a league match.

Next Sunday Weber will be gearing up again to play its long time Big Sky nemesis Montana. This will be a war of the two original Big Sky Conference powers, who rank No. 1 and No. 2 in all-time conference results.

The match will serve as Weber State’s senior day, with the Wildcats’ seven seniors set to be honored.
