The XTERRA Pan America Championship off-road triathlon and the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship will be held at Snowbasin Resort and Ogden, Utah, on Sept. 17-18.

Ogden City Council to vote on Diversity Charter

The Ogden City Council will vote whether or not to adopt the Ogden Diversity Charter on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of the Ogden Municipal Building.

The proposed ordinance would amend Title 3 of the Ogden Municipal Code by adopting a new Chapter 18, establishing the Ogden Diversity Commission.

Constitution Day address

Laughlin McDonald, director emeritus and special counsel of the Voting Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, will address WSU on Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the Wildcat Theater.

McDonald will discuss national voting rights litigation, how various groups have been left out of voting and what citizens can do to remedy disenfranchised voters.

McDonald will discuss Native American voting rights in-depth at the Shepherd Union Lair on Sept. 13. Native American students, community partners and friends and allies are invited to attend.

Town Hall on race relations continues

Weber State University and community partners will host a second conversation about race on Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of the Union Station.

Strained police and community relations throughout the country underscored the need for a conversation between community members and police officers in Ogden City.

The event is a continuation of the last town-hall event held at WSU’s Shepherd Union on July 30.

“We have initiated conversations, but are we at that point where everyone can feel included?” said Viviana Felix, chief diversity officer for Ogden City, at the initial event.

“At least we have started those conversations.”

The event is free and open to the public.
