It’s November now, which means it’s time for Weber State University Campus Recreation to host the 11th Annual Turkey Triathlon.

The triathlon will be run in a reverse sprint format. The typical triathlon includes a 750 meter swim, a 20 km bike and a 5km run. In the reverse format the race will begin with a 5 km run, followed by a 10 km bike ride and finish with 300 yards (or six laps) in the Swenson Pool. All transitions will be done in the A7 parking lot next to the Swenson gym and the road portions of the course will run around campus.

All participants will receive a t-shirt, race packet, samples and prizes. On Nov. 6, participants are able to pick up their race packets. The actual race will be held Saturday Nov. 7 starting at 9:00 a.m. The starting line will be located at the A7 lot next to the Swenson Gym complex.

Kelly Boyce, marketing and operations coordinator for Weber State Campus Recreation, said, “It is open to the public, but for Weber State students, faculty and staff they can get a small discount on the registration fee. New to this year, we have extended that discount to any alumni as well.”

Aside from the physical benefits that come from a full day of physical activity, the top male and female finishers will receive a free turkey.

The top three male and female participants for each age division will also receive an award at the end of the race. Campus Recreation will also hold a raffle for all participants of the triathlon to win a prize. The awards ceremony and raffle will be held in the Swenson Gym directly after the race.

All proceeds go to Weber State Campus Recreation to help with things like scholarship funds and sports teams’ travelling.

“We also do scholarship funds for our staff, and the funds from this event help with that,” Boyce said. “Another benefit is that our fitness instructors can get different certifications, so we can encourage professional development. We encourage them to do something that will assist us and make our program better.”
