Weber State Athlete | Kirtlyn Bohling | Weber State Softball

Weber State University softball had a stellar weekend last week, winning all of their games, and the Wildcats were led by the pitching prowess of junior Kirtlyn Bohling.

She executed several dominant outings, which led to her being named Big Sky Pitcher of the Week. Bohling pitched in all four games over the weekend, pitching at least one inning in each.

She started two games and relieved two others. In her starts, Bohling threw two complete games and came in for two save opportunities.

In the first game, Bohling pitched a complete game against Iona College. During the game, she was able to pick up her season high in strikeouts, with eight in the game. She also allowed five hits and one unearned run.

In her second game, Bohling stepped up in relief and got her first save of the year. Weber State beat the University of Tennessee at Martin 7–5 behind the last one and two-thirds innings from Bohling. She allowed only one hit and had three strikeouts in the close.

The third game was against a Big Ten opponent, the University of Maryland. Weber State had another complete game from the junior pitcher. Bohling pitched six strikeouts, allowing six hits but only one run.

Bohling followed that performance with a one-inning save against Iona, only requiring 11 pitches to finish the job. On the season, Bohling has a record of 7–8 in 18 games. She leads the team with 85 innings pitched, 61 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.55.

This is Bohling’s second time this season being named pitcher of the week, the sixth time for her career.

Professional Athlete | Russell Westbrook | Oklahoma City Thunder

Russell Westbrook and the Thunder took on the Utah Jazz on March 11. Westbrook came into the game tied with Wilt Chamberlain with 31 triple-doubles on the season.

Westbrook finished the game with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists in a win against the Jazz 112–104. Westbrook surpassed the legend, recording his 32nd triple-double of the year.

Westbrook finished the triple-double in dominant fashion, recording the stats he needed with 8:50 left in the third quarter.

Westbrook now has his eyes set on overcoming Oscar Robertson and his 41 triple-doubles recorded in the 1961–62 season. This record was considered to be one of the great records of all time, one that couldn’t be broken in the modern age of basketball.

Westbrook needs to get at least 9 more triple-doubles in the last 16 games to reach this “unbreakable record.” With Westbrook’s latest triple-double game, it puts him at 70 total for his career, the fifth most of all time.

Throughout the year, he has averaged a triple-double with 31.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 10.1 assists per game. Westbrook will need to average 9.5 assists and 7.8 rebounds in the last 16 games.
