Members of the recently crowned Big Sky championship team, the Weber State University men’s basketball team, received still more Big Sky high marks on Monday. Senior guard Davion Berry, freshman guard Jeremy Senglin, sophomore forward Joel Bolomboy, senior center Kyle Tresnak and head coach Randy Rahe all took home Big Sky accolades for their performances this year.

Berry was named the regular-season MVP of the Big Sky, as well as the tournament MVP this past weekend. The senior out of Oakland, Calif., was a driving force behind the Wildcats throughout the season. Berry was also unanimously named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive year.

It was also Berry’s second consecutive year of earning All-District First Team honors. Berry was the catalyst of the basketball team and its success. In 16 of the last 18 games of the season, including the Big Sky Tournament, Berry was the leading scorer for the Wildcats. He also led his team in steals and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Tresnak was named to the All-Conference Second Team for the second-straight season. Tresnak led the conference in blocks this past season, recording 53 blocks altogether, the fifth most in school history. Tresnak is also the first Wildcat ever to reach more than 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 100 blocked shots. His total of 123 blocks is the second most in school history.

In the Big Sky Championship game, the Scottsdale, Ariz. native helped the Wildcats keep ahead of the University of North Dakota by scoring 21 of his career-high 27 points in second half, giving UND no hope of making a comeback. It also earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

While the team was laden with heavy senior leadership, younger players on the team also earned awards for the year.

The conference recognized Senglin with the Freshman of the Year award, making him the fifth Wildcat to have received the honor. The Arlington, Texas native led all freshmen in the conference in scoring with 11.3 points per game.

Senglin is the first true freshman in nearly 40 years to start the season opening game, and he didn’t stop there. He started every game for the Wildcats this season, knocking down 57 3-pointers, the most of any of his teammates.

While fan favorite Bolomboy is known for his ability to jump effortlessly into the air to finish alley-oops and grab rebounds, the conference recognized him as the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year. He’s only the second Wildcat in school history to receive the honor. Bolomboy’s 10 double-doubles in conference play was the most by any player in the Big Sky.

Bolomboy also attracted broader attention, being ranked fifth in the country in rebounds per game at 10.9. With still two years to go, Bolomboy is already ranked 16th in school history in rebounds. In the conference semifinal, his defense prevented the University of Northern Colorado from executing a play, forcing an undesirable shot that missed, giving WSU the win.

Head coach Randy Rahe was named the Big Sky Coach of the Year, becoming the only coach in Big Sky history to have won the award four times. Rahe is wrapping up his eighth season as head coach, meaning he’s been given the honor for half the time he’s been with the team.
