Current Weber State University Student Association executives passed the torch to the newly elected executives Friday in the Wildcat Theater. Joe Favero raised his right hand and took the oath of office to serve as the next study body president of WSU.

“I have a great passion for Weber State,” Favero said. “I believe that my time here enabled me to do more than I thought possible.”

The outgoing leaders talked about their time serving in leadership at WSU.

“I think I can truly say I only have a handful of new friends that I . . . (will) keep in touch with for the rest of my life,” said Trevor Annis, the outgoing vice president of service, adding that the student leaders he served with are part of that group.

Each outgoing vice president handed out the Purple Belt, an award to the member of each vice president’s constituency whom they felt worked the most to achieve their goals. Annis said that, in karate, the purple belt means “new dawn,” which is fitting for the end of the semester.

WSUSA handed out the Lisa Ellis Award as well. The award is named after a former student who served in leadership and graduated with honors despite fighting cancer. Lisa Ellis’ family presented the award to Courtney Ellis Woodfield and Aberlardo Saucedo. Woodfield burst into tears when her name was called.

The new vice presidents took the oath to office, followed by the new student senate.
