Cheap Weekly: Finding affordable places to hang with friends

Going to class every day can be exhausting, so it’s important to give yourself a break. Sometimes you’ll have the rare opportunity to go out and do something with your friends. The stars have aligned: you don’t have to work, there are no more classes for the day and the homework isn’t piled up. The catch is that everything seems too expensive.

Here are some places to go hang out when money is tight.

All around town there are businesses that give Weber State students discounts, so it never hurts to ask. Just down the street from the Ogden campus is Little Caesars, everyone’s favorite cheap pizza destination. This store will give WSU students Crazy Bread for $1. Throw in a pack of sauce, and you’re only out two bucks—not bad for a good snack.

Another place that is worth going is FiiZ, recently opened in Ogden at The Junction. It’s a little longer of a drive, but the variety of drinks and low prices make it worthwhile.

Their website calls it “A serious drink experience,” and they mean it. There hasn’t been a drink yet that has been a disappointment. You can get a variety of drinks, from the Pink Poodle, which has cotton candy cream soda and whipped cream, to Summer Nights, which has peach puree, raspberry and whipped cream. The best part is that the prices range from $1.25 to $2 for regular drinks and $2 to $3.50 for kid’s drinks.

After getting a drink from FiiZ, Riverdale usually has something to do. A fun adventure could be stopping into Graywhale to do some movie/music hunting. Graywhale has a variety of used and new stuff, most of it for a pretty good deal. A lot of their vinyl is 99 cents with a buy-two-get-one-free deal. Their movies are fun to look through as well. A lot of their used ones are also buy two get one free.

When your day of excitement is over, you can head to The Burch Creek Mercantile store on Washington Boulevard. This store has everything from milkshakes to sandwiches to good old-fashioned ice cream cones. It has a fun retro feel that makes it fun to sit and enjoy your ice cream or to look around at all of the fun trinkets they have.

There are other things around town to do on a budget, but these are some quick and easy things to do with friends when school and work aren’t keeping you down.
