Cheap Weekly: Jump into summer

With temperatures on the rise and spring semester wrapping up, it is time again to break out the summer bucket list. Whether festivals, art or wanderlust calls to you, Utah has an adventure for everyone. In the interest of saving for fall tuition, here are some inexpensive quests to check off your bucket list this summer:

Snowbasin’s Blues, Brews & BBQ

Beginning June 11, Snowbasin will host free concerts every Sunday outside of Earl’s Lodge. The lodge will offer a savory BBQ spread, as well as a variety of beverages to satisfy your thirst. The festivities begin at noon and last until 5:30 p.m.

Ogden Twilight Concert Series

Once again, Ogden Amphitheater will welcome a series of bands for the Ogden Twilight Concert Series. Shows will run every Thursday in June, and tickets are available for purchase in advance as well as at the door.

Utah Arts Festival

Celebrating its 40th year running, the Utah Arts Festival is set to take place in Salt Lake City from June 23–26. The festival will showcase over 250 visual and performing arts groups. In honor of the 40-year milestone, the opening day will be free for all attendees.

Utah Shakespeare Festival

Embrace your inner bard at the Utah Shakespeare Festival this summer. The festival, which received a Tony Award in 2000 and an Emmy Award in 2011, presents a series of classical and contemporary plays throughout the summer. The 2016 season will run from June 27–Oct. 22.

Spiral Jetty

Created by Robert Smithson, Spiral Jetty is a renowned work of art comprised of black basalt rocks and earth. The massive coil is a great destination for adventurers and art enthusiasts alike.

HAFB Warriors over the Wasatch Air Show

Set against the backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains, the Hill Air Force Base Air Show is an aviation-lover’s dream come true. A plethora of aircraft, including the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, will do fly-bys and acrobatics. Crowds can also enjoy music, food, beer and tours through the aircraft.

No matter what tickles your fancy, summer adventures in Utah are not likely to disappoint.
