1. B. Senator John McCain passed away on Saturday at the age of 81. According to CNN, McCain’s legacy included two presidential campaign bids and over 30 years in the U.S. Congress.

2. A. Amidst the Catholic church’s recent accusations of misconduct, the New York Times reported that an archbishop has accused Pope Francis of being part of the effort to cover up the sex abuse scandal.

3. A. A shooting broke out at a Madden NFL 19 tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Aug. 26. According to NBC, the football game franchise had brought enthusiasts to the tournament to compete against other gamers of a similar caliber. The shooting happened inside a “gamer bar” in a mall, and rocketed the multi-million dollar gaming industry into national news in its wake.

4. C. Judge Robert S. Lasnik, of the Federal District Court in Seattle, recently ruled that Cody Wilson, a self-described “crypto anarchist,” can no longer post free blueprints for 3D printed guns online, according to the New York Times.

The day after the ruling was made, Wilson said he will instead send out the blueprints on flash drives to whoever pays for them.

5. C. Hurricane Lane dropped over four feet of water on Hawaii, in 52.02 inches of rain, from August 22-26. According to CNN, Hurricane Lane passed by the island chain over the weekend, but Hawaii is still feeling the storm’s after effects. Residents are currently recovering from days of heavy rain and remain on the lookout for even more showers.
