I have never been much of a camper. In fact you could say the only real camping I’ve ever done was pitch tent in the backyard with my brother, and I’m pretty sure neither of us actually spent the whole night outside. That’s why when I decided to the Weber State Campus Recreation outdoor program’s Snake River raft trip, I was a little apprehensive. However, my feelings quickly changed as soon as we arrived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I was greeted with beautiful views of the Snake River as we pitched our tents at the campground. In the morning, we embarked on the Snake River. Being the amateur rafter I am, I sat on the front of the raft, which is conveniently where most of the water rushes in. As we approached the first rapid, I watched the raft ahead of us get completely engulfed by the water. I was surprised that our raft made it through all the rapids without losing a single person on the raft. The second time we rafted through the water we came dressed in costumes, and I voluntarily picked the front of the raft. Throughout the whole experience, I learned more about myself and made new friends. The next event the outdoor program is hosting is the Mount Ogden Hike on Oct. 4. I highly suggest you attend if you want a great way to meet new people and stay active. I know I will be there.
